Greetings from Contracorriente staff in Honduras. I am Jennifer Avila, cofounder and journalist of Contracorriente, a new digital media platform producing investigative and analytic journalism and experimenting with new narratives to tell Honduras stories and context.

Contracorriente is an independent media sustained by these alliances HERE, and by communication services. We have been telling stories about multicauses of forced displacement and migration in Honduras for the last two years as a systemic problem in the country. These caravans fleeing since last year has made us rethink our coverage of the issue, taking into account that this phenomenon is changing the traditional ways that people have used to emigrate and this implies a before and after in the subject, change of actors and dynamics.

We are following this actual caravan sustaining it with resources produced by our team selling services as fixers for international media but we need to be more independent and to cover in a two way strategy:

1. Observing the moving caravans.
2. Investigating several subjects about the phenomenom (economics-actors-gender-politics). We are letting you know this because you are important allies for us and resources coming from the audience are extremely valuable because they make us more independent. In that way, we are about to launch a small crowdfunding campaign so we can cover this, and we want to encourage you to be the first donating in our site and helping us follow this moment in Honduras and Centralamerican history. Migrants journey being observed by national media also helps them to change people minds about nationalism and make solidarity networks, it protects them to be visible and encourage them to speak, and that is the most important thing for us, break the silence in a country were impunity message has been always: watch, hear and be quiet.

If we achieve the amount of US$ 5.000 we are sure to fullfill all our needs and accomplish this neccesary objective.
